How It Works

Baseball Autograph Search Engine, or BASE, is a series of computer vision models that identifies baseball autographs in images. BASE processes images in two steps:

  1. An image is passed through an object detection model that detects all autographs in the image.
  2. Each detected autograph is then passed through an image classification model that classifies each individual autograph as a specific player.

This two step process allows BASE to quickly identify multiple autographs within the same image from its pool of hundreds of baseball players. Although BASE cannot identify player autographs it has not seen in training, we are constantly adding new players.
